Blue Arrow Set to Supply Staff for Leading Bakery Brand

“Helping the bakery access a broader range of talent and technology-led talent solutions is an exciting part for us to play in their transformation journey.”

Blue Arrow is pleased to announce its recent success in securing a contract to supply temporary workers to nine sites for one of the UK’s largest bakery goods brands.

With more than 130 years of bakery experience, this well-known company, whose drivers deliver around 1.3 million loaves of bread, every day, is one of the UK and Ireland’s best-loved bakery brands. Since being acquired by a private equity firm in 2020, the company is investing in its future with transformation plans focused on its business infrastructure and product range.

The baked goods brand employs over 2,800 people across eight regional bakeries, one flour mill, two regional distribution centres and its head office, located in High Wycombe. As a strong values-led business the company is particular about finding staff who embody its values of quality, accountability and trust.

The brand faces recruitment challenges due to the universally challenging pandemic conditions and with temporary workers in short supply. Access to temporary staff is crucial for busy holiday periods and to support unpredictable changes in product demand. Working with a recruitment specialist like Blue Arrow will bring the consistency the business needs for its temporary staff supply. Helping recruit and retain the best available talent to support ambitious transformation and growth plans is key the success of this partnership. Supply of around 300 full-time, temporary staff, including bakery production operatives, hygiene operatives and despatch roles make up the majority of the demand while divisions of Blue Arrow’s parent company, Impellam, will help fill other roles across logistics, engineering and head office departments such as marketing, finance and Human Resources.

Greater visibility of demand and fulfilment of temporary staff patterns will make forecasting and management of the temporary workforce easier. Management information (MI) will also help focus and refine opportunities to create process efficiency.
