This organisation is a British food company that prides itself on its high-quality flour and bread. It has been baking bread across the UK using the finest ingredients for more than 130 years.

As a leading food manufacturer, it continuously looks for new ways to improve its business and the right people to help drive it forward.

Blue Arrow is proud to be the single-source provider of temporary workers for this business, staffing roles such as Bakery Production Operatives, Hygiene Operatives and Despatch Workers across ten nationwide sites.

The Challenge

The client requested a full refresh of their flexible workforce strategy, from recruitment to retention, including an evaluation of recruitment processes and use of technology to improve efficiency and cost management.

Blue Arrow has been working with the client to improve recruitment processes to make them more efficient and increase its ability to fill gaps in production staff schedules and improve staff retention.

The Solution

A hybrid talent supply model was implemented as the best strategic fit to provide the client’s ongoing recruitment needs. This model involved a blend of dedicated on-site recruitment and temporary worker management specialists which formed the Blue Arrow National Account Team, complemented by location relevant branch teams which were coordinated and managed centrally through a dedicated Customer Success team. The client relationship would be managed by the National Accounts team with the Customer Success Hub managing overall service delivery for ongoing recruitment, candidate assessment and inductions.

We also offered extra support throughout the recruitment and onboarding process for candidates for whom English is a second language and adapted production schedules to accommodate the religious needs of a diverse local workforce and offer inclusive hours to attract a high density, local student population.

The Journey

Before any recruitment work took place, a Blue Arrow Business Change team carried out an in-depth evaluation of the current state of play from recruitment practises through to staff management. The team highlighted key areas for improvement and defined milestones that were most important to the client’s achievement of their goals.

It was identified that each client location presented a unique challenge and so bespoke supply solutions were needed to meet the individual needs of each workplace.
