Innovation Engineer - High Wycombe

Blue Arrow Reading & High Wycombe is proud to be working with a well-established and forward-thinking manufacturing business based in High Wycombe, who are seeking an Innovation Engineer to join their growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly respected technical engineering and product development function that supports multiple sectors, including Aerospace, Military, Environmental, Medical and more. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for innovation, new technologies, and the drive to push the boundaries of what's possible in advanced manufacturing.

The Role:

Reporting into the Engineering Manager, the Innovation Engineer will play a key role in supporting innovation, product design, research and development, and technical estimating. You'll be involved in the entire innovation life cycle - from concept through to prototype and feasibility assessment - with a strong emphasis on sustainability and commercial viability.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist in identifying and assessing strategic long-term technologies for implementation.
* Collaborate on innovation and development projects from initial concept to production readiness.
* Support the development of prototypes and proof of concepts, ensuring technical and commercial feasibility.
* Provide technical estimating and cost analysis for potential products and projects.
* Work closely with internal teams (engineering, design, operations, quality) as well as suppliers and external stakeholders.
* Document and record relevant activity under R&D tax credit schemes.
* Help to define product specifications and create design-for-manufacture documentation.
* Participate in NPI (new product introduction) meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Contribute to quality plans, reports, and standard operating procedures.
* Support both Engineering and Production Managers with ongoing innovation and maintenance tasks.

About You:

We're looking for someone with a strong technical and engineering mindset, ideally with previous experience in an innovation or R&D-focused role within a manufacturing or engineering business. You'll be naturally curious, solutions-oriented, and proactive, with a structured approach to problem-solving.

Skills & Experience:

* Proven experience in engineering and innovation.
* Experience with CAD (preferred).
* Strong background in proof of concept, rapid prototyping, and technical research.
* A keen eye for detail and ability to meet deadlines.
* Strong communication skills - both written and verbal - including presenting ideas and progress.
* Ability to evaluate the feasibility and commercial potential of new technologies and processes.
* Strong IT literacy including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Collaborative and personable with a positive, 'can-do' attitude.

Details:

* Location: High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
* Hours: 38 hours per week (Monday - Thursday)
* Holidays: 24 days paid holiday (including bank holidays)
* Contract Type: Permanent
