Compass Group Jobs Overview
There’s a lot that goes into food service, production and related services, and Blue Arrow has a great variety of different roles with Compass that you could apply for. Here’s a brief overview of the sort of jobs recruited for and what they could involve:
- Catering Assistants – You’re the engine of the kitchen. Working under the guidance of a Kitchen Supervisor or Chef de Partie, your job is to ensure that the kitchen is clean and operational. You may also be involved in preparing ingredients, so it’s a great stepping-stone to becoming a chef.
- Customer Service Assistants – As the provider of front of house services you’ll have responsibilities that could include managing bookings, greeting guests and escorting them to where they need to be, and being available to resolve any customer issues. You’ll also help out with a variety of tasks associated with food production and service.
- Chef Managers – You’ll lead, develop and support a team to produce high-quality food whilst monitoring hygiene and kitchen safety standards, planning menus and managing stock, budgeting and purchasing. Basically, your role is to supervise and coordinate all culinary activities.
- Head Chefs – You’re the heart and soul of the kitchen and you run the whole operation. Everyone – from the Kitchen Porter to the Sous Chef – looks to you for inspiration and your menus will set the tone for the restaurant.
- Sous Chefs – In addition to producing food and ordering ingredients, you’ll be ensuring the team produces top-quality cuisine and that talented chefs are trained and developed. You’ll also take charge of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
- Chefs de Partie – You’ll oversee a section of the kitchen, such as pastry, butchery, fish, sauces or vegetables. In large kitchens, you usually get help from a Demi-Chef de Partie, Commis or Trainee Chef.
- Kitchen Porters – No kitchen can run smoothly without a top-notch Kitchen Porter. Your job is to keep the kitchen – and everything in it – sparkling clean, disposing of waste and ensuring all areas are clear of debris. Kitchen Porters can also be involved in food preparation, from peeling potatoes to preparing salads or desserts.
- Cleaners – Standards for food hygiene in commercial kitchens are understandably very high and the role of Cleaner is a vital one. Along with general cleaning, you’ll carry out deep cleaning as required, touch point cleaning, and be responsible for the upkeep of regular cleaning reporting and scheduling.
Whichever role you’re looking for, and whatever stage of your career journey you’re at, Blue Arrow will provide the support to help you find your ideal job:
